Hi. Mark If you are online I will run you through it at the weekend, might be easier to use a linux system with ioquake 3. Will leave it up to you what you want to use. All the best Kieron

What I am going to do this afternoon is take off the files from the hd that I want to keep and format the disc then install linux mint. I have the user manual so I should be able to install it ok. What I will more than likely need help with is running the server under this new OS, well new to me anyway. Will let u know when I have it ready to setup server, cheers

So far i have linux mint 15 installed on duel boot win 7 machine.
Have quake 3 files copied into user/local/games/quake3/baseq3.
Have a static ip address, hopefully I can use that.
Opened ports on router, only have 2 boxes to fill out so I opened ports 80 to 27990. I am sure this is wrong, too many ports open. I have virginmedia superhub.
What I am stuck with now is installing mod and the correct startup command line.
Start up for normal q3 is easier just cd /user/local/games/quake3/ to your quake directory and start with your normal commands ./q3ded etc if you are using console that is.
Have you managed to unpack the pointrelease ok into your quake3? this can some times be a pain on newer linux operating systems.
With ioquake 3 you dont have to install all of the q3 point releases to get them to work it is built in to this so you just change setting in start up command to change protocol (pointrelease).
To add the mod just put mod file in q3 folder and set the fs_game in startup command +set fs_game "mod of choice" same as you would normaly.

Well since I am a NOOB where linux is concerned it sounds a good idea to go the easiest way and build on that. To get things up and running I will just go with standard quake 3. How do I exec linuxpoint release.run I have the point release in the baseq3 dir but not sure on how to run it. Same goes for unlagged mod.
In the words of Jack Sparow: "Its not the destination so much as the journey."
Unlagged mod as long as you have all the files in there is just to use the fs_game command in startup command , the point release is a bit more involved have you run it yet or is it still as you downloadedd it.
Its been a while since i have run these files so had to look at google, i found this on a site
chmod a+x linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
./linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
YOu will have to change the 1.32b-3.x86.run to the number at the end of your run file. from what i remember it gives u an option to change the path to where your q3 and baseq3 are when it runs. heres another site
