OK:
Listen, I will help you if you want your own but I need more information before we can do that. Firstly, are you planning on having the server at home or are you going to rent one from www.gameservers.com or similar provider. If you are running it from home we really need more information about the computer you will be using. Start replying to this thread I will will do what I can to guide you in the right direction.
I recall you have already being pointed in the best direction of server rental by our team. Anyway lets hear what you have to say and see what we can do.
I would like to know the answer to too question though;
Why do you want to be admin for a dm17 server?
Being an server admin is hard work and you need to put the work into it. Its not just like having rcon control. Thats why its probably best for you to spend $10.00 a month, which is what I used to do, at gameservers.com and rent a 12 slot quake 3 server based in your country or as close to you as possible. Then all you have to worry about is the server configuration. I can help you on that one. Teddy has a good server up now we have helped him with his configurations. Think about that direction. If you are wanting to run a server from your computer which you use to play your game you will be causing lagging problems along with other issues. You do need a separate machine to be the dedicated server.

Have you tried playing on dm17 in single player. Also try the create your own server idea by pressing the create button in your menu. You will see a blue box on your desktop once u launch it. Thats the server. Now load quake 3 and go to multiplayer, local u will see your server in the menu bar. This is a good way to do LAN games/parties.
