Hi Mark This is how i do it mostly First, open the Terminal.
Then execute chmod +x file-name.run. This marks the file as executable.
Execute ./file-name.run in the Terminal. If an error message including 'permission denied' appears, use sudo ./file-name.run. Be careful, sudo allows you to make critical changes to your system. Many software installs will require sudo.
You also have to be in the same directory as the file use cd / This is an old file and may not work as normal. you will have to look up the eror on google or post it on here and i will look it up. As your servers are root you will have to sudo to get it to work, also it may be a corrupted file.

I get the same error:
./linuxq3apoint-1.16n.x86.run: 99: exec: -title: not found
I have found another dl location which I am going to try. Its from a q3a mod site called nemesis. I never heard of it and it looks like a fab mod all the good things of OSP 1.32 in a 1.16 server mod very similar to NOGhost. If I fail with NoGhost I will give the Nemesis a go check the site out see what u think.

I got the Nemesis to work but its not consistant works sometimes and not others. What I need is the 1.16 q3a install on the linux server. Got an idea, since it wont load on modern copy of linux like u said matt I am loading an old version of the same linux on a spare hd. Hopefully that will do the trick then I just copy files from one drive to another. Its only the file extraction bit not the running of the file that wont work. So this should be ok just a long way of doing things.
It's just the installer that won't work because it was made with a really old version of "Makefile" which newer linux distro's just can't read. But files inside will work fine, weird eh?

The version of linux i put on was like dos no GUI so I was a bit lost with it. Just playing with ioq3ded protocols seems to get it working most of the time not sure how compatible ioq3 is with pr 1.16 might have to stick with 1.30 if i can.
In the words of Jack Sparow: "Its not the destination so much as the journey."
I been messing around on my Linux box and it does seem like ioquake3 doesn't really like any protocol below 66.
I have managed to extract the files from the 1.16n .run file and got a server going on them so they work. I've zipped up the files and put them on my web server so you can download and give them a go Mark.
