Hi
If you have a Quake server up and running and want to allow clients to autodownload files this is what you need to do:
1. in your server.cfg file add the following command line;
set sv_allowdownload 1 //setting this to 0 stops clients autodownloading.
2. Second command you will need is:
set sv_dlRate 200 //This is the rate at which clients will download files from your server. Make sure its not set too high. I did that and it does put great strain on the servers resources. 100-300 and no more should work well.
3. I have my files loaded onto the nastyclan domain and the servers are linked to those folders. This makes things a lot easier to download.
Server command line is:
set seta sv_dlURL "http://www.yourwebsite.com/q3afiles/baseq3"
you will notice I set subdirectories q3afiles/baseq3. In the baseq3 upload all the files u want clients to download. Example: if you are putting overkill map onto the server and want clients to dl it automatically then upload the the file to baseq3. As long as u have the link in your server.cfg to the baseq3 on the server then clients will autodl the map overkill.
One lasyt point, if u are using ioquake3 for the server the autodownload is not capped by the server and clients will download at a good rate. If u are using q3ded then the download rate is capped by the quake engine and its usually a very low rate too. So the sv_dlRate command does not really apply to u as its going to be capped at around 7kb/s. One good reason to use ioquake3 I guess.
any problems just add a comment and I will get back to u.
