I will keep a list of what I have tried and errors I get here whilst attempting to setup E+server side.
First thing I am going to try out is to config mod with Open Arena 0.8.8, not copying over any pk3 files to the baseoa dir, sv_pure 1, auto download on

Just found a thread on the openarena site which says u need to patch the server before it becomes server side only that way all versions of OA will work. I am testing that out now with a fresh install of quake and no mod installed to see if the server side only works.

Having a few hiccups with the ioquake3 but works a treat on regular quake install 1.32c. Joined server with no mod files and no downloads initiated by server. Game play is very smooth.

I extracted the vm folder from z-xp2.pk3 placed it into excessive mod dir and removed cgame.qvm and ui.qvm just leaving the qagame.qvm. That what I did for Open Arena and it worked a treat so I thought I would try it on standard quake and it works great.
